We start our days cleaning up spilled glasses of juice in the morning, rushing the children to college, attending meetings, returning calls, handling finances and attempting to invent a clock with 30 hours per day. If you managed to get through an whole cup of coffee while it was warm I’m in awe. But, face-it, we surely do not have time or desire to think about the drudgery of maintaining an air conditioner. Who thinks about a potential electric panel overload until there’s a crisis? And whenever there’s an issue… it’s not just a reality, it’s a PRIORITY! I’ve undergone the urgency earlier.

It is ideal to understand who to call BEFORE things break down - your trusted technician who schedules your maintenance visits and wards off crises. However, what if we do not know who to call? Building a relationship takes time, but finding the ideal technician doesn’t have to take too much effort.

Speak with friends, family, neighbors in the region. Try to get more than one referral from people you trust. Be certain the referring person has first-hand experience if possible.
Make a short list of businesses that you want to test out.
Check the business website. Do they appear professional and legitimate? How long have they been in operation? Are they licensed? Bonded? Insured? Do they have a broad focus of providers “we do it all” (one stop shop convenience) or do they concentrate their support expertise (often a better alternative for quality)?
Take a peek at what customers are saying on the internet or Facebook. Caveat: Assessing are subjective so read the content of their reviews. And always look at the filtered reviews on websites such as Yelp (computer filtering is incomplete and without considering the full image you will call on the wrong company or discount an excellent company.)
Call the organizations to get a sense of their professionalism. Ask about prices for new customers or what makes and models they support. Do they offer care plans? What’s their guarantee and/or warranty policy? How responsive is the man who answers the phone? Have you been stuck on hold right away or for too long? If a company is too busy they may not be staffed to handle your emergency. Response time is vital.
Narrow it down to 2-3 companies and program a maintenance tune-up with a few of those technicians (or if you know you need a replacement have them all come out and give you an estimate; most firms offer estimates for free.) If you are having many come out don’t judge solely by the quotation; ask them to explain the quotation so it’s possible to get a feel for their knowledge and ability to work together with you. They should explain their recommendations so you understand the work. If the tech is speaking down to you or being excessively and unnecessarily technical show them to the door.
Finally, bear in HVAC Service that the person who comes to your house may be a salesman for the company rather than a genuine tech; this is normal with larger businesses. On the flip-side a “one-man show” can not do it all and may not be in business when you telephone for your warranty. If you want to be more than the account number and have the guarantee of longevity, then opt for a smaller company with several years of being in company.
